Everyone members Madonna! She is the musical performer who made a huge impact on the tastes, values and ideas of what is acceptable in our country.
You all have a favorite song or two of hers, don’t you? Or memories of the many incantations of her; the many redefinitions of her image.
A woman about sixty years old can no longer be considered a super-rock star, can she?
Yet I was told that tomorrow night, May 1st, Madonna will be starring In the Billboard Awards show. And that she has spent five million dollars on the props, costume and special effects for her performance. Does this extravagance make fans happy? Or curious, wondering why on earth it was necessary to spend $5 million for a single television performance.
But at least we can be comforted in the knowledge that Madonna is not appearing on the show because she needs the money…I feel so much better, don’t you?

I live in Los Angeles and have friends who are in the crafts that support the entertainment industry. At the end of every movie my husband and I sit through all the credits looking at carpenters, grips, electricians, and myriad union workers, because at times we know someone. There is a ridiculous amount of money spent in all areas of entertainment, but some of it is in support of the economy. I think most of the time we’d be shocked at the money spent, but as long as the public eats it up, that’s where we are! I’m just impressed that at 60 she can still pull it off. LOL!
Thanks for your response, Debra. Most of us, me included, do not have an understanding of the enormous resources used in putting together any kind of production or show.
Wow that’s a lot of money, I need to see that performance. 🙂
Tonight’s the night!
im going to watch it!
I hope it lives up to the hype!
I watched it. The holograms cost 5M!
Unfortunately the industry promotes this obscene waste
There certainly has to be many better uses for five million dollars.
We can all think of several wonderful causes that could vey much benefit from such a windfall.
Whatever she does, I agree with John; too many hungry people in the world to flaunt conspicuous consumption.
I totally agree with you; too bad we don’t get to have a voice in where this kind of money goes…
Let’s see. You can feed a hungry person for a dollar a meal. That’s five million meals. Divide by three and that is 1.7 (rounded) million hungry people who could receive three meals for a day. or another way 5,000,000 divided by 365 is 13,698 people who could get a meal a day for a year. All for a TV appearance?
Wow John, the entire story takes on a different meaning !
Too bad she would never ever think in those terms.
…although she was once a have not also.
Yup.
Thank goodness she doesn’t need the money.
Ah, another kind hearted person who agrees with me. We’ve got to see what she does with the $5,000,000!
She may spend $5m on a show, but that money goes back into the economy, set builders, painters, cuostume makers, suppliers of the materials. Those who earn that money then spend it their local coffee shops and bakers and plumbers and so on. if it just sits in her bank account it benefits no one. So there’s an upside.
Great point, Bill. Thanks for your comment.
